MMA is a blend of combative Martial Arts disciplines, each specializing in a specific range of combat. Some of these arts include Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai Kick Boxing, Wrestling, Judo, Boxing and other combat Martial Arts.
Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu (Grappling) - Known as a dominant “Ground Fighting” art, Jiu-Jitsu an art that teaches take downs, throws and trips to get the enemy to the ground and then teaches positional control and submission holds such as arm locks, chokes, shoulder locks, knee bars, ankle locks, etc… Jiu-Jitsu is a key to every Mixed Martial Artist’s arsenal.
Ground & Pound (Grappling & Striking) - G&P is a hybrid style founded in MMA that links together Grappling techniques with Striking attacks such as punches, kicks, knees and elbows on the ground. G&P will for sure make your opponent wish they were still standing up.
Muay Thai Kick Boxing (Striking) - Known as a reality based “Stand up Striking” art, Muay Thai Kick Boxing teaches attacks such as punches, kicks, knees, elbows and defensive maneuvers such as evasive footwork and blocks/counters to striking attacks. Muay Thai Kick Boxing is a sure fire way to dominate the enemy while standing.
Boxing (Striking) - Known for its effective punching and body movement, Boxing is similar to Muay Thai Kick Boxing as it too is a stand up fighting art. Boxing primarily promotes proper hand striking and evasive movement. This is for sure a good way to pack a punch come time for the throw down.
Wrestling (Grappling) - Not to be confused with “WWE” entertainment Wrestling, combat Wrestling teaches a variety of ways to bring the fight to the ground using techniques such as clinching, double leg take downs and big slams. Wrestling is a good choice for a MMA fighter when properly linked to Jiu-Jitsu and the submission game.
Judo (Grappling) - Known for its big throws and illusive sweeps, Judo teaches the fundamentals of off balancing your opponent and taking them down to the ground where Jiu-Jitsu and Ground & Pound can finish the fight.
